Today I bring you a piece entitled "Moons" When the sun sinks down, and you realize that the shadows are your only friends, how do you handle it. "Moons" is about a man who lost it all, and now is settled to suffer a curse that few can bear.

Moons
The fires raged,
And He laughed,
Another village seized for the new king,
And another pot of gold,
Ready to be spent,
Countless bodies laid at his feet,
Anyone who got in their way,
Was dealt with,
Destroyed,
Without mercy,
He laid claim to all the land,
Before him,
The next village not unlike the last,
As they swept through,
He realized one house had remained untouched,
He kicked in the door,
And there stood an old lady,
Crystal blue eyes,
Staring defiantly,
"Should you choose the path your own now,
All shall be lost,
Including your own soul,
You'll look back one day,
And realize that it could all be prevented,
But it will then be too late,"
She laughed,
And without a second thought,
Put his sword through her neck,
And continued his raid,
****
A few weeks later,
He returned home,
And found his wife waiting,
He kissed her,
Embraced her,
And spent the night,
Making love to her,
As if it was his last,
As he closed his eyes to sleep,
The woman's face,
Flashed in his mind,
And he was instantly awake,
He turned,
And with horror realized,
That his wife,
Who not long ago,
Was a living breathing person,
Was now nothing more then a statue,
Days passed,
And he couldn't believe what he saw,
He ordered the men to carry her,
To the top of the tallest building in the village,
And set her atop so she could look down,
He spent every day up there with her,
Sure she could hear,
Certain she wasn't dead,
Day in and day out,
That was how he sat,
His days of fighting were over,
He now spent his time with his beloved,
Hoping that somehow he could make this right,
****
One day he stayed up there long after sundown,
The moon had risen overhead,
And he realized it was getting late,
He stood up,
And went to move,
When he was frozen,
In place,
Looking out over the mountains,
Slowly,
He too became a statue,
Then he heard her,
The voice of his beloved,
Almost as if in his ear,
"We are once again together,
Can you hear me?"
Her voice was music,
And they talked,
Until the moon began to disappear and the sun would come up,
Then almost as quickly as it came,
There was poisoning silence,
He was aware,
Of all the things around him,
But completely unable to talk,
He watched,
As his once beautiful village was raided,
And him and his wife were both moved,
To another palace,
To stand guard at the gate,
The legend goes,
That if you go out in the stillness of the night,
You can hear him crying and begging for forgiveness,
From his beloved,
A forgiveness,
For locking her in this lunar hell,
Afterward
I liked this piece; there was some depth there that may have lacked in some of the other pieces. When I sat down to write it, I didn't know an end. I think I was able to make it all come full circle and the ending does make sense. Leave a comment below and tell me what you thought.
