So today we find ourselves in a special Friday edition of “Book It” that’s because I screwed up on the amount of time I was going to spend doing other projects and then found myself dragging my feet. Thus I now sit here getting ready to write this post while my wife hogs the TV in the living room and binge watches Criminal Minds. Regardless, that’s neither here nor there. In fact, today, we’re going to be talking about a subject that’s actually very prominent and that’s the subject of Part Time Wrestlers in WWE.
But Part Time Wrestlers in this context isn’t my whole problem. The problem is because of the build up Mania which centers around the idea that Goldberg could very well be WWE Universal Champion going into the main event. If that’s to happen, that means that Goldberg is going to have to defeat Kevin Owens, a man who has carried the title for a number of months and done a lot to elevate it while he carried it. The problem I have is that we’re likely going to see a squash match and that’s a problem.
Now here’s the thing; I’m a Goldberg mark, there’s no doubt about that. I was very excited when he made his return and was pleasantly surprised when he basically murdered Brock Lesnar at both Survivor Series and at the Royal Rumble. Now, I have no problem with Goldberg vs. Lesnar being on the card but I don’t believe that it should hold the distinction of being the main event, and it likely will be. What’s worse is that it will likely be for the WWE Universal Championship, another problem if you ask me.
But then again, that’s Vince McMahons’ WWE. He’s centered around Part Time Wrestlers for quite a while and has even leaned on them to main event a number of shows, those matches should have easily gone to talent who had been working for the entire year but Vince thought different. Instead of learning from the past and how CM Punk reacted rightfully after being fed to so many Part Time guys, Vince feels it’s a good idea to do something similar to Owens. What’s worse is he’s going to be made to look like a bitch to Goldberg, a man whose only wrestled one actual match in 13 years. That’s a problem if there ever was one.
What ties this all together is that I think that the WWE Universal Championship should stay with Owens, why? Because it doesn’t add anything to the Goldberg/ Lesnar Match. But alas that’s likely not the way that it’s going to go down. And WWE won’t ever learn from those mistakes.
WWE needs to get it’s head out of it’s ass with these part time acts. Because if it doesn’t, it’s likely going to eventually suffer the same fate as WCW and what’s going to happen, and to an extent already has happened is that they won’t have stars to carry the business forward. It’s that kind of mindset that will completely ruin not only the company but wrestling as a whole.
That’s going to do it for this edition of “Book It” I’m sorry that I was so tardy in getting the entire thing online. Lets be honest, life gets in the way and it kind of fucks you up sometimes. Either way next week, we’re going to be talking TNA and a lot of the transitions that it’s been going through as of late. For now, I’m Kyle Robinson picking up the pencil and closing the book on this topic.
