So what’s changed for my in 5 years of chasing this dream of being a writer? In a word…. Everything.

Welcome to another edition of “In The Demons’ Head” Can you believe I’ve been writing this fucking blog for 5 years? Shit me either, in fact until 30 seconds ago I had everything labeled as 4 years then realized that the math didn’t add up and thought… Way to go fucktard, then again I never claimed Math was my strong suit.
So what’s changed for my in 5 years of chasing this dream of being a writer? In a word…. Everything.
First, I actually wrote my first novel. Something that I think if I would have had the balls to do 5 years ago I’d probably be further along then I am right now. But that aside, I’ve not only written my first novel, I wrote 6 of them. As most of you are aware though there’s only one available for sale. That’s because the first others were absolute fucking train wrecks. I promise you those were books that you defiantly don’t want to read. Hell, they’re not even books I want to read, let alone for them to be put into the public for consumption. Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you though and making you learn when you least expect it, and now that I’ve written them I couldn’t picture writing much more then novels.
But I did more then write novels, in fact, I did a lot more. I got very comfortable with my own voice both in books, and in this blog. It took a long time but I realized that I can be me and that people will still enjoy what I’m writing even it’s laced with a bit of salt language. Which brings me to another thing I’ve learned, be yourself.
I know that sounds super cliche and probably stupid, but the fact is I realized that I needed to be myself. Because being myself meant that I don’t have to pretend to make people like me. They either do or don’t like me. It’s a lesson that I used in real life but I finally transitioned it into my professional one. Ever since doing that I’ve been FAR more comfortable writing these post then I was before.
I also learned that podcast are a writers best friend if utilized correctly. What I mean by that is this: For years I was receiving the writer and Writers’ Digest both magazine with some seriously good information but I got to the point where trying to read them all became a chore. That’s not fun, and it leads to me not wanting to do it. However, podcast can give you great advice while being bite sized enough that you’re able to digest them quickly. That lead to me being able to get more information while still not losing tons of my days. Because let’s face it, I’m a slow fucking reader. If I knew how I could get quicker I would but so far I’m still reading like a turtle fucking a tree…. Very slow, in case you didn’t get the visual.
I’ve also learned that having people who are around you that are chasing the same goals you are, that makes things way better. That’s because those people are able to keep you on track while still providing you the right amount of feedback and proper vibes that you need to stay afloat in this crazy ass world.
At the end of it all, I’m 5 years in and I still haven’t reached some of the levels of success as some of those around me. That’s either because I haven’t found what I needed, or I’m missing something. Whatever the case is I’m still going to keep working at it, why? Because if I don’t I think that a piece of me will die. That’s because this is all I know how to do outside of playing video games. There’s a future for me here, I just have to find the damn thing and I’ll keep pushing it if I have too until I find it.
There’s a WHOLE lot more shit I could throw into this post, but to be honest I’ve forgotten some of it. It’s a marathon, not a sprint that’s one thing that I know I kept hearing people say. It took me a while to adapt to those words, but I have and now I’m trying to just get the snowball rolling. So, to those of you who are on this journey with me here’s to ya’ll. If your trying to do what I’m trying to do then hit me up I’d love to shoot some shit with you and maybe talk ideas. God knows you can never have enough friends and Idea bouncers, because your defiantly not the best judge of your own ideas.

P.S: This week I’d like to start something new, it’s my “Question Of The Week” My question this week is this: What is one of the hardest things you’ve ever had to do? How did you overcome it? Share your responses in the comments below, I’ll pick the best one and the winner will receive a free copy of “LeatherBound” for the Kindle.
