In The Demons’ Head: Augmented Reality, The New Reality?
October 14, 2016
What’s going on guys and welcome to another edition of “In The Demons’ Head” If you were with us last week, we took an interesting trip down through a few dark portals in my mind. However, today I want to get back on a lighter fare. I want to discuss something that I heard while listening to a podcast a few weeks ago. In a nutshell, these guys claimed that the new augmented reality trend would eventually kill social media as we knew it and bring people back together and help them reconnect in the world, making Augmented Reality the New Reality.
But is that really what’s going on? The short answer is no.

According to the story I heard. It's been said augmented reality will replace social media because social media is so negative. You can see it for yourself, everywhere across social media it seems like all you see is negativity. Augmented reality games like Pokémon go bring people back into the real world, a place they haven't been in quite a while.
So I pose this question? How does Augmented Reality replace social media when all this whole thing is, is people out in the real world sharing common interest, which, isn’t that what reality is supposed to be in the first place?
I know that this topic might be a bit dated, as the Pokemon Go fad seems to have washed itself away to an extent. But, my point is this: Isn’t reality always the way we should approach any situation, be it with or without a game? Plus, you say Social Media is where all the negativity is, I’m not saying you’re completely wrong but have you watched the news lately. There’s not a lot in this country that seems to be cause for celebration anymore. Worst of all, do we really want to go outside to socialize?
I mean shit for the last few weeks we’ve been seeing creepy clowns running around and basically scaring the shit out of people, and for what? Just because they can? Doesn’t seem to make a ton of sense but whatever. It’s things like this that will keep people on social media, and locked in their homes happy to retort to the latest Marvel movie trailer from behind their computer screens, or phones.
I don’t think that Augmented reality is the new reality, but I do think that the reality that we once knew is dead. Technology, and the bleak world we live in killed it. There are a few remaining people who want to see a better reality, and a better tomorrow, but they are overshadowed by those who would rather watch the world burn. And that’s the problem, and currently the world we live in. If this post taught you that, then you haven’t looked out the window recently.
You know, I’m done with this particular topic. Because the more words that I type, the more pissed off I get at this subject. So instead of turning into a full rant I’m going to go ahead and bid ya’ll a fair ado. Next week, I will be talking about the joys of procrastination, and how in some cases, it has helped me, and has hurt me. Until then, be sure to follow/friend me on Facebook, follow me on Twitter, And be sure to sign up to themailing list. Until the next time you want to take a trip through the gates of hell and into the demons’ head, I’m Kyle Robinson wishing you a safe trip back to the surface.
