In The Demon's Head #220: Finding Success Someday
May 6, 2015
Hello everyone and I hope that this new post, while a little late in the week, finds you in good spirts. As I write this post I'm looking out the window in my front room and realize how much I'm loving the weather that's been bestowed upon us. Enjoy the rest of the week, because it's going to be nice out at least in my neck of the woods.

So what's the deal with this post. What kind of message am I aiming to get across with today's post? Well, a podcast that I listen to called the Self-Publishing Podcast, along with the foundation and discovery of a couple of groups on facebook full of writers has really started making me look at not only my words, but where I want to go differently.
As some of you may recall, I posted a couple months ago about how in one week I managed to improve all of my writing working habits for one reason or another. I'm happy to say that now, a couple of months after the fact, I've managed to continue to hold onto my writing habits. As of this writing, I've managed to finish writing the first episode in the first season of a novella series that I am debuting next year.
But again, how does all of this information relate to title of Finding Success Someday?
Because yesterday, I also listened to a video presented by the wonderful indie author Joanna Penn. The video basically talked about how you can make a living with your writing, and what direction to go with your revenue systems. There are also the directions you can go to generate sales for the products that you have out there.
I realized I was aiming to become one of the high production authors that put out good quality stuff quite a bit every year. I've got a lot of projects and things planned for next year and it's likely that I'll sit down to put together a good 5 year plan going forward. I haven't done that yet because of a few different reasons. All the same, I'm hoping that you enjoy some of the stuff that will find its way to market before the end of next year.
But it was the first question she asked during that presentation that made me stop and think, what do you define as success?
I thought of this question for a few minutes while I continued to watch the video. She asked, what defines success, money, fame, accolades, awards, what defines that you finally made it? I thought about this and realized that I had one answer, I wanted to do this full time. I think that if I did this full time, I'd be able to say that I made it and that I could call that a success. To me, being able to call writing my career, means that no matter what I've made it and that's a win for me.
The more I sit down and think that, I realize that the entire idea might blow up in my face and I may not ever end up doing this as a career. But you know what, I'm not going to give this shit up until I manage to find that success and that is my career.
So what defines success for you? Share your thoughts and stories in the comments.
Until the next time you want to take a trip through the gates of hell and into the demon's head, I'm Kyle Robinson wishing you a safe trip back to the surface. Before you leave, be sure to check me out on Facebook, and sign up to my mailing list. I promise, you'll enjoy that ride as well.
