In The Demon’s Head #237: “Immortalized” Review
August 30, 2015
Hello everyone and happy Sunday evening. Once again I come to you with a late post to the world wide web. Today’s post, I’m EXTREMELY excited about for three reasons: 1. Today I finished the edits to my first novel and sent it to my editor for review. It’s now one step closer to publication. 2. This is the first “review” that I’ve done on this particular blog. Now, if you go back through the timeline I wrote a few back in the day but those haven’t seen this audience. 3. This is a new style of writing for me so it brings out a new side to my words that I haven’t really been able to use as of late.
Oh… and 4. BECAUSE DISTURBED IS FUCKING AWESOME!
Sorry, felt I needed to share that last bit of information.

Hello everyone and happy Sunday evening. Once again I come to you with a late post to the world wide web. Today’s post, I’m EXTREMELY excited about for three reasons: 1. Oh… and 4. BECAUSE DISTURBED IS FUCKING AWESOME!
Sorry, felt I needed to share that last bit of information.
With that said, I should probably explain why I shouted that last statement, and it has a lot to do with my post today. That’s because today’s post is a review of the brand new album from Rock Group Disturbed. One of my all time favorite bands is back after a near five year hiatus with a new album entitled Immortalized.
If you don’t know who Disturbed is, then you probably won’t care about this post. But, just in case your curious, Disturbed is a rock group that hails from Chicago. The band, whose music has been featured in a number of video games, movies, and other forms of entertainment took a hiatus after their last album was release in 2010. A lot of fans weren’t sure if they’d ever come back. Then earlier this year the rumblings started and the new album Immortalized was announced for release on August 21.
The version that I bought was the deluxe digital edition which came packed with 16 songs. This album achieved a number of things musically that some weren’t sure could happen. It’s a half and half split as some of the songs ring true to their original sound. Songs like Immortalized, Who, and Never Wrong, ring a Disturbed vibe that long time fans will recognize.
At the same time the band reinvented a lot of their sound with songs like “Fire it Up” about smoking weed for inspiration, “The Vengeful One” which was the first single off the album, and the band’s first run at a love song entitled “You’re Mine.” This different style of not only music, but lyrics, introduces the band to a new generation of fans in a great way.
Even the bonus tracks, the three of them that there are, are decent songs. They remain lyrically strong and seem as if they should be included on this album and weren’t just thrown in for shits and giggles.
The highlight of the album for me though is a cover song that the band did when they covered “Sound of Silence” the 1969 Simon and Garfunkel hit. The way that the band arranged the song, and the emotion that David Dramin conveys during the lyrics, they took the song and made it their own. Another high point is the song “Save our Last Goodbye” This is another song that I can’t say enough good things about. On a personal level I hope that this becomes a single so I can see a video.
If the album has a weak point, it’s the last song on the regular album which is called “Who taught you how to hate” While the song has grown on me quite a bit it’s still probably the weakest song on the album in terms of just enjoyment but this is my personal opinion.
Overall, this album is a fantastic reintroduction to one of the best bands out today. I can’t wait for the tour so that I can see them again. If you haven’t done so yet and you enjoy Rock music then I’d suggest that you go out and pick up this album either digitally or at a store near you.
Until the next time you want to take a trip through the gates of hell and into the demon’s head, I’m Kyle Robinson wishing you a safe trip back to the surface.
