In The Demons’ Head #263: Learn Scrivener Fast Review Part 3

September 2, 2016

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of “In The Demons’ Head” in this particular post we’re going to continue our discussion and review of the wonderful course that is Learn Scrivener Fast. If you’ve read the first two parts I’m up to Module 4 and 5 which are titled “Blogger’s Paradise” and “Easy E-books” respectively. Before I begin I’d like to say that the blogger’s paradise section of this course intrigued me before I started it. That’s because once I started to fully use Scrivener for all of my writing projects, (yes especially this blog) I’ve wondered if someone had made things simpler for using it for blogging. I’ll be honest I’m not sure if that’s what this particular section is about but we’re going to find out so without any further ado let’s get into module 4 of the course, “Bloggers Paradise”
HOLY CRAP. I just spent almost an hour and a half going through each individual video and I have to say that I learned a ton just from that section alone. Granted, a lot of the tips and tricks are geared more for wordPress builds of websites but that’s mainly my fault because I decided to go with Weebly. (Not really planning on changing any time soon either as I like the look, feel, and familiarity of the website builder.)

Within that section, it helped me set up my blog projects a little differently. This has caused the entire process to be a little more streamlined and straightforward versus the way that it was before and I was stuck fiddling my way through different sections trying to make sure that everything lined up.

There is also a decent bit of the unit which is dedicated to Multimarkdown. This is a pathway that at the current time I likely won’t take but if you’re reading this and you use multi markdown in anything you do please feel free to share your comments and let me know what you think of the program and how it streamlines your writing process. At the end of the blogger’s section there’s a slide that basically says that there is more content coming in that particular section and I for one can’t wait for all of that new stuff to become available.

The next section in the course is entitled “Easy E-books” and I figure this probably goes without saying but this is an entire unit centered around, you guessed it, creating e-books.

I feel like I’ve used this term before but GOOD LORD…. That’s something I can’t stress enough how amazing this part of the Scrivener course is. I’ve written quite a few things that were set for publication and I’ve still never really gotten to use Scriveners’ heavy lifting to help finalize a book.

After finishing this particular part of the course. I was blown away with what Scrivener could do. I’ll be honest, if you’ve never published an ebook before then the compile feature is going to scare the ever living shit out of you.

There are options upon options upon options, and customize options, and a ton of different things but at the end of the day it all leads to the same thing, a compiled, formatted, and finished e-book that is ready for publication.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t take a ton of notes on this section because I knew that when it came down to it and I finally get to where I can use Scrivener to help do the heavy lifting for my compiling I will likely be rematching the videos because if I don’t it’s likely that I will be losing out on some of the features.

Overall, these two modules were two of the most valuable tools in both organization and helping me keep track of what I need to do, and what I have left to do when it comes to the blogs. I believe that I can use these tools in my novel writing as well. We’ll see how these things play out as I get further into my use of scrivener for different projects.

Originally, next week I wanted to do some of the bonus content but THERE’S A TON OF THAT SHIT. Like literally, a metric ton of stuff that I don’t think I’d be able to cram into a single post. So instead next week, I will be giving a full blown review of the course top to bottom. I might be able to fit some of the bonus stuff in but I doubt I’ll get through all of it.

So, next week be prepared for a full blown review. Until then, be sure to Like me on Facebook, Follow me on Twitter, and join me on the mailing list, that way you’re all up to date as things happen. Until the next time you want to take a trip through the gates of hell, into the demons’ head, I’m Kyle Robinson wishing you a safe trip back to the surface.
