June 9, 2017
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of “In the Demons’ Head” and this week I’m going to talk about a strange moment for us writers, it’s that moment where your brain kicks in and screams “HOLY SHIT I’ve got something here!” I’ve you’ve ever written a novel that you were passionate about, or an idea that really pulled at you, I’m willing to bet that you’ve had this moment occur at least once or twice.

Because let’s be honest, if you’re a writer, even if you don’t suffer from Writer’s block staring at the blank page is absolutely fucking terrifying. I don’t mean that it can’t be overcame but you realize, “Jesus Christ, what the hell did I get myself into?” I’d bet you’ve thought that as you looked at the blank pages that started a new project. If you’re like me, the first few thousand words seem to dredge out of you because you’re still not sure exactly what you’re aiming to do with this book, or this story, or anything of the sort. Instead, you’re just writing to write because, well if you didn’t write, you wouldn’t be a writer.
But somewhere in the middle of the book, as you learned the characters, learned what they wanted, what they needed, and what they desired after you started to realize, wait, this book is actually pretty good, and then you get interested in the story yourself, and you find yourself looking forward to writing the story everyday. Now you’re scrambling through it as you’re trying to reach the end, and this way you knew what was coming, and you wanted to reach the end. It was at that moment, the one where your so overjoyed to be writing, that moment is what I’d call an AHA moment.
But you see, there’s a second kind of AHA moment and it’s that kind of moment I’d like to talk about today. You see that moment comes when you’re unsure who or what your next project should be about. Let me tell you a bit of a story. By now you’ve learned that I’ll be releasing PuppetMaster at the end of the month. While this isn’t the surprise, the surprise came when I realized that there was a series of books that could be written in this universe, and I only realized it after I wrote a short novella for my mailing list that talks about my main villains journey closer to the beginning point of the novel. As I wrote this short Novella, I realized holy crap this book could be something, and there’s more to it then meets the eye. So I realized that there was a second book in the series revolving around the same main characters, or at least some of them, as PuppetMaster. So I set to work on outlining the book, and getting it all together and thus my next project was born.
It’s a strange feeling when something like this happens. It makes me feel really good in a way that I didn’t know was possible. I’m excited for this new project and I hope that you guys are as well. As a writer, if you have had a moment like this, please feel free to share them in the comments section below I’d love to read them. Until next time you want to take a trip through the gates of hell and into the demons’ head, I’m Kyle Robinson wishing you a safe trip back to the surface.
