In 2016 the wrestling world was treated to a pronominal debut from one AJ Styles during the Royal Rumble. Now, while it’s no secret that AJ wasn’t winning that match all we as fans wanted was for them to give him a strong showing. They did just that, and while some were worried about what would come next for the phenomenal one, we shouldn’t have been worried.
You see, AJ had an interesting start to his WWE tenure to say the least. He’s one of only a handful of wrestlers who debuted on the Main roster in the last 4 years without first going through NXT. But the crowd immediately knew who he was when he stepped on the stage and that meant that Styles was in for a hell of a run. Then at Wrestlemania AJ faced off against Jericho in a losing effort but it showed that AJ could deliver on the big stage and him and Jericho did just that. The next night he won a #1 contenders match for the WWE Championship and then went on to have a great feud with then champion Roman Reigns.
Then we got the Brand split, and things went boom for AJ Styles. Now a less crowded roster, AJ shined even brighter then before. He had a great feud with now WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose, who cashed in Money in the Bank and won the title. AJ would end up pulling the title from Dean and would hold it from September through January where he lost it to John Cena, a man he’d beaten twice the year before.
People were pissed about AJ Styles dropping the title to Cena but for him to beat a 15 time champion twice in the same feud, then turn around and hold the title 4 months of his first year in the company, that shows you how much faith they have in AJ going forward. Then this year after a decent set up, AJ had a match against Shane McMahon in a match that turned out to be pretty damn good. The question now is what’s next for AJ. The fact is the Sky is the limit. That’s because this man has the ability to go with the best of them in the ring, and on the mic. Wherever he finds himself, and whoever he’s in the ring with I think AJ Styles has the ability to completely steal the show every single night. That type of drive and hard work will take him far in WWE I have no doubt. It’s going to be interesting where we see him over the next 6-8 months has he develops even more into a star. I feel like this is only the beginning for AJ Styles, and I know a majority of fans would agree.
Until next week everyone thanks for giving me a read. I’m Kyle Robinson picking up the pen, and closing the book on this subject.
