In The Demons’ Head: A Year of Goals in 2017
January 20, 2017
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of “In The Demons’ Head” On this special Presidents Inauguration Day, I’ve come to you aiming to explain my own personal goals for 2017. Let’s get down to brass tacks, I didn’t accomplish what I’d intended to in 2016. In fact, aside from a few shorter works that arrived to little to no fanfare, and updating this blog on a semi-regular basis, my work for the year, at least on the publishing front was bare for 2016. Though last year was great for a couple of things, one of those was self reflection and realization. What I realized last year was that I was no where near where I wanted to be in terms of a publishing/ writing career and I realized that in order to fix that I needed to sit my ass down and actually do some writing.

Then I said fuck that and ended up putting together a calendar at the end of 2016 to map out what I was going to do this year. That’s a step in the right direction, right? Though 2016 wasn’t all bad as I did manage to “Win” NaNoWriMo for the first time in 3 attempts with a book that will be released later this year but more on that later on.
So what does 2017 hold for me you may ask. Well, I think it’s time I draw back the curtain and let you guys in on a few of the goals I set for myself for this year.
Read More Books
It seems like every writing book, coach, and advice column all tell you the same thing. Read A LOT, and they’re not wrong when it comes to that, but to be honest, I read slower then someone with untreated ADD. I can’t seem to focus on a book long enough to actually read continually but this year I’m making it my mission to sit down and read more books, 8 of them to be exact. (Side Note: That’s more books then I’ve read in the last 4 years COMBINED) 4 of those books are fiction books, and 4 of those books are non-fiction writing books that I haven’t read in the past. The idea is to help me broaden my horizons with reading, and if you have a trick to help me learn to read faster… I’ll trade you a kidney to give it to me.
Publish More… Everything
How the fuck are you supposed to become a full-time writer if you never publish a word? That’s a question I asked myself a few months ago when I realized the last thing I published was a collection of short stories almost two years ago. Newsflash, I really didn’t make it all that far. This year though I intend to publish 5 new projects and 2 projects that are kind of an intro into my work. Among those will be 3 novels and 2 novellas. It’s a lot of work, but I think that I can pull it off, and in the end I know that it will help me slowly make some footing toward that goal of full time writer.
Become More Efficient and Productive
I’ve been making strides to help make my work more efficient and productive. That’s because if I ever do want to get off the ground here I’m going to have to figure out a way to get books, that don’t don’t suck ass, out to you guys on a regular basis. To do that I need to streamline my processes, and help build myself a way that will work for making everything flow better together. I’ve began doing that with the help of some amazing people that I met through a couple of Facebook groups, and hopefully all of it lines together and pans out for a very productive 2017.
Say Fuck It To Political Correctness
Here’s the thing, I’m a people person, but it tends to have to be the right kind of person for me to get along with. Those people are people who don’t get their feelings hurt easily, and have to be intelligent, and I believe that everyone whose reading this right now fits that bill. I’ve realized that I haven’t been “myself” with these blogs, because I’m afraid if I don’t portray the professional image then everyone will pass me off, the fact is, those people who are interested will read what I have to say because they like me for me, and not some faked out, fucked up version of me that I use to try and impress the masses, because honestly that isn’t going to happen and why it’s taken me this long to figure it out… I don’t know.
At the end of the day, life is about the choices you make, the company you keep, the ability to chase your dreams as far as you can. If you’re able to do that then in theory, the rest should fall into place. That’s what I’m aiming to do, but unlike some, there may be some untimely fucks dropped along the way. If that’s a problem for you, then I apologize that it took you until now to see this, but hopefully you’ll stick around.
In the meantime though, be sure to pre-order a copy of “LeatherBound” which debuts on Monday in the Kindle Store, and as part of Kindle Unlimited. You can also join me on Facebook, and Twitter, as well as my mailing list. Until the next time you want to take a trip through the gates of hell and into the demons’ head, I’m Kyle Robinson wishing you a safe trip back to the surface.
