In The Demons’ Head #261: Learn Scrivener Fast Review Pt. 1
August 19, 2016
Hello everyone, it feels like it’s been a damn long time since I’ve written a post for this particular blog. While it hasn’t been nearly that long I have to say that a lot of the post you’ve read, this one and the next included have been canned as I get ready to gear up for another round of editing on m latest project. But that aside, I’m going from one great tool for writers to another and I’ve decided that I’ll also be reviewing the massive Learn Scrivener Fast Course.

This course was designed to help teach writers how to use things within the program that I’m writing this post in, that program is Scrivener. There are 6 different parts to this course so I’ll likely not be able to do a post on every portion I will cover most of it in my comprehensive 4 part review. With that said, let’s get ready to launch into the first part of the course entitled “Step By Step Basics”
Now as I get started writing this particular post I realized about a quarter of the way through I had taken this part of the class before. I had the option of doing it for free through a group called AppSummo and I’ll be honest it was just as good the second time around. This is by far one of the biggest sections in the entire course but that’s understandable. The entire thing is based on the basics of a program that really is insanely massive.
The first part of the course is broken down into 5 different modules. Each of them centered around a different part of the process. The first two are for setting up and getting Scrivener ready to use. Module 3 is about getting the writing part of the process together and down. Module 4 teaches you about how the revision tools in Scrivener works. Module 5 is all about exporting the work that you just did into whatever format and file you seem fit.
If there’s one thing that working through this module has taught me it’s that Scrivener has a lot of strengths. A LOT of them. On the flip side though, you also learn that there are a few areas where Scrivener could be improved drastically. One of those areas is in the revision process. For a program that centers around being the ultimate writer’s toolbox it is drastically lacking in the revision tools department.
But, what it lacks for there it makes up for in it’s ability to do a lot of heavy lifting in both the planning, research, and finalizing systems that are used within the program. After completing the first section of this program (again) I’m excited to see where the other sections take me with brand new, and in-depth information that I didn’t have before. I can only hope that when it’s all finished I’m going to be a scrivener ninja… or at least a scrivener pirate… pirates can be good too right?
Next week, I’ll sit down for part two of the Learn Scrivener review. I’m excited to get into a brand new section within the course. I’ll bring you more on that next week. Until then, be sure to give me a like on Facebook, Follow me on Twitter, and join the email list to make sure you don’t miss any exclusive information, and mailing list gifts. Until next week, I’m Kyle Robinson wishing you a safe trip back to the surface.
