In The Demon's Head #217: The Commercialization Of Holidays
April 7, 2015
So before I get this post underway, I'd like to state for the record that this post will offend some. It will likely piss off a select group of people, and I'll be honest, I'm okay with that. I'm not writing this post to offend, or to make people angry, or have people hate me because of my opinion. So with that, let's get started with today's post. It's not for everyone, and it's not about writing in any way. Today's post centers on the commercialization of holidays.

As most of you know, this past Sunday a majority of America celebrated the Easter holiday. Now, today's post idea came to me after reading a facebook post from a good friend of mine. The post basically called into question the holiday and what it meant.
The post, in a nutshell, basically said that the holiday didn't have anything to do with Easter bunnies, eggs, and things like that. Let's be honest with ourselves, this is a true statement. The holiday is about Jesus, if you believe in that kind of thing. I'll be honest, I don't. That's no secret to people who have read this blog. But let's take my belief out of this equation.
Look at the holidays, Easter, Valentines Day, Christmas, these three holidays are basic holidays that corporations have decided to completely monetize the holidays and it has completely ruined the holidays as they are. Shit every year most retailers open up on the Thursday of Thanksgiving, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY, in order to make a buck.
Let's take a look at where I work, McDonalds. Hell we're open all days on Thursday of thanksgiving and now this past year we were open on Christmas. It was completely ridiculous. However, this post isn't bitching about holidays that companies have monetized it's about people's reaction to it when people are called out on it.
During the referenced post above, a couple of the commenters got damn angry over the fact that the holiday were called out for their bullshit. How do you get angry when someone points out the honesty behind the holiday? That's the question that I have. If your that damn angry over the fact that a corporation stole your holiday, you know something man up and say something to the damn corporation. Don't take it out on people who weren't calling you out, they were calling out corporations for forcing employees who want to spend time with their families on holidays, but instead they want to make a few extra dollars.
At the end of the day, don't be a little bitch when it comes to holidays and get angry because their job keeps them away from home on holidays. Plus, don't turn around and go "well you know what you signed up for when you took the job." Your right but holy shit when does it come to the corporate responsibility to allow people to spend time with their families. Why do we get angry at the people who need to make money to live for being angry because they want a holiday off with their family, instead of being angry about the company who just wants a few extra dollars on that holiday.
I'm sorry if you don't agree with me, and I really don't care. That's up to you. If you agree, thanks and share this post around. Plus, share your comments in the bottom of this post.
